FAQ
01
What is a Business Valuation?
A business valuation is a comprehensive and analytical process conducted to determine the fair market value of a business or company at a specific point in time. This process involves assessing the company's financial performance, including its revenue, earnings, cash flow, and other key financial metrics, as well as considering non-financial factors such as market position, competition, industry trends, and the overall economic environment.
Our team is deeply trained and experienced in this process, ensuring that the conclusion of value that you receive for your business is accurate and defendable.

What is a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV)?
A Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) is a professional designation in Canada for individuals specializing in business valuation, the process of determining the economic value of a business or company's equity. CBVs are recognized experts in appraising the worth of businesses, business ownership interests, securities, and intangible assets, among other things. The designation is conferred by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (CICBV), which sets the education, experience, and examination requirements for obtaining and maintaining this credential.
CBVs possess a deep understanding of both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of a business's value, combining their knowledge of finance, accounting, economics, and law with critical analytical skills to assess the value of a business in various contexts. These professionals are skilled in applying appropriate valuation methodologies and techniques, analyzing financial statements, assessing market and industry conditions, and considering legal factors that may impact value.
Should your valuation require the experience and independence of a CBV, we will ensure that is provided and explicitly indicated in your final report.

What do I actually receive at the end of the engagement?
Unless explicitly agreed upon, you will receive what is known as a Valuation Report at the end of the mandate. This is a PDF document that outlines the research, methodologies, reasoning, assumptions, relied upon materials, and calculations that led to the final conclusion of value. This allows you to feel comfortable in the process, gain a better understanding of what drives your Company's value, and have confidence in the report's findings.

How much does a valuation cost?
The cost of a business valuation is highly dependent on a number of factors. However, the two factors that impact pricing the most are:
1) the intended use of the report (ie. the depth requirements of a succession planning report are generally less than that of a regulatory compliance report).
2) the complexity of the business (ie. family ice cream shop vs a national logistics company).
